EAPs- The purpose of EAPs is to provide assessment, referral, and brief problem resolution. When an employee is in crisis, it is especially important to operate differently than in long-term treatment. As your corporate EAP therapist, I consider myself an 'early architect' of your employee's recovery.

Our goal: employees healthy and well !

The goals are to:

    • stabilize the employee-
identify daily behaviors that will help immediately stabilize the employee (exercising, deep breathing, focusing on self-care, redirecting negative thoughts as they occur, etc.),
    • identify and mobilize the employee's existing resources -
encourage contact with employee's support network (family, friends, spiritual leaders, etc.),
    • create new sources of support for the employee -
identify additional support that will continue after EAP sessions end (referral to support groups, longer term counseling, practical workbooks, recommended readings, classes or workshops, and
    • establish a safety plan for the employee -
identify emergency resources should an employee's safety degrade (provide the location of nearest ER, suicide hotline, directions for obtaining police assistance, etc.).
